BJCP Styles Guidelines

May 5, 2010

This should be required reading for all beer geeks. This is the governing body for most beer competitions, both commercial, and homebrewed, in the U.S. today. All you have to do is find the style you are interested in learning about and all the information about the beer you could ever want is conveniently listed. I would recommend that all ALES members read Wheat and American Pale Ale style descriptions as a start.

I agree that every one should be familiar with the BJCP. But let us not think of it as gospel passed down from on high. There should be room for creativity and open expression beyond the BJCP.

It may not be inspired but it is the leading word on beer in the U.S. And they pretty much have a category for every possible style of beer there is, no matter how creative you may become.
